About Kitchen Nightmares: Somerville Edition
We started this blog to document the process of renovating our kitchen in Somerville, MA. While neither of us had ever tackled a renovation project before and had no personal reason to think it could be a nightmare, we’d heard enough anecdotes from others to think that we might end up with some good stories (and photos!) of our own along the way. Plus, this seemed like a good way to keep friends and family informed on progress, and maybe even to keep ourselves sane while arguably the most important room in our house is torn to shreds.
Why renovate our kitchen?
Anne is an incredible cook and baker, and I (Jack) thought she needed a work space equal to her talents. I saw her struggling to coordinate multiple dishes; store all of her tools, dishes, and books; correctly predict how much the actual temperature of the oven differed from the display; make room in the refrigerator for all of her creations; and so on, all while working in a large room that was only partially utilized. Cabinets and appliances were along only one wall, useful counter space was limited, lighting wasn’t great. We both decided that it was time to make a change. And here we are.
